Welcome to the Korean Studies Website

Our history dates back to the 1950s, and our Korean Studies programme has been offered since the 1980s. The curriculum combines Korean language instruction with courses on Korean history, literature, culture and art. We offer both bachelor's and master's degree programmes. Our experienced academic staff are actively involved in international research projects and conferences. Students also have opportunities to participate in academic exchange programmes with universities in the Republic of Korea. Our graduates pursue careers in diplomacy, culture, media and business.

Our Mission

Our mission is to educate specialists who are proficient in Korean, possess in-depth knowledge of Korean Studies, and are prepared to engage in intercultural dialogue. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum grounded in many years of teaching and research experience, our programmes develop the linguistic, cultural, and analytical skills necessary to understand contemporary global challenges and build bridges between Europe and Korea.

Faculty of Asian and African Cultures

As part of the University of Warsaw's Faculty of Asian and African Cultures (formerly the Faculty of Oriental Studies) - Poland's largest centre for research on Asia and Africa - we offer a unique environment in which to explore the world, pursue your interests, and acquire knowledge that fosters openness to cultural diversity.

Our Research

The Department of Korean Studies conducts a wide range of academic activities, including research projects, scholarly publications, and the organisation of conferences and symposia. Our team engages in interdisciplinary initiatives, creating opportunities to explore and deepen knowledge of Korea in its many dimensions - from history and culture to language and social change.

Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programmes

During the bachelor's degree programme, students in the Department of Korean Studies gain a solid grounding in the key academic disciplines needed to understand both traditional and contemporary Korean culture. At master's level, they further develop their Korean language skills and research expertise, preparing them for a wide range of career paths after graduation.
